About Us

Sunderland BME Network is a member-led, infrastructure charity (Charity No: 113​0886) that supports and promotes the development of Global Majority VCS groups in the City of Sunderland and neighbouring areas. Sunderland BME Network was established in 2003, became a constituted body in 2005 and registered as a charitable company in 2009.

The Network has supported Global Majority VCS groups and been involved in the strategic development of the VCS in Sunderland for 20 years. Since the establishment of the Network, in 2005, it has been involved in the development, delivery, management and monitoring of a range of city and region wide initiatives, that have included – Sunderland Change Up Consortium, Sunderland Community Development Network and Sustainable Sunderland.

We currently have 25 full and associate members

Our vision is to enable BME VCS groups to develop and flourish and continue to support the communities they represent.

Our Mission

Promoting the black and minority ethnic voluntary and community sector for the benefit of the people of Sunderland, and the North East, and promoting the effective use of charitable resources by the black and minority ethnic VCS.
